Starting Out As A Writer – 5 Things You Should Know

So you have embarked on a journey to be writer? There are several things that you should know. All writers’ careers start from the same place, and natural love for reading and an innate desire to write. In many cases, a writer will write whether they are getting paid or not. If your passion for writing is truly uncontainable and you remain diligent and consistent, eventually the money will come.

There are some very important things about the writing life that every novice should know. As you start out, you’ll meet myth-busting realities all along the way. From the outside looking in, being a writer appears to be such a glamorous life. Well it’s not as glamorous as many think and for those of you who have started on this journey, this was probably your very first lesson. But I can tell you from personal experience, when you are passionate about writing, the best luxury is putting pen to paper or tapping the keys on the computer and producing something colorful with words. Writing is like breathing for me. If I don’t do it, I cannot live!

Here are five more things that I think every writer should know:
1. Don’t quit your day job too soon because you won’t get rich quick.
2. Remind yourself constantly that you are a writer! Proclaim it out loud. Say “I’m a writer!”
3. Find your own voice.
4. The learning never stops. Even the most prolific and best-selling writers in the world consistently invest in their writing by honing their craft.
 5. Never, ever give up.

I hope these few words of encouragement inspire you to write like you’ve never written before. Pour your heart out through your words.

Happy Writing!
